2 cups lentils
6 cups water
4 medium-sized onions sliced thin
1 cup olive or vegetable oil
1/2 cup cooked rice
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
Soak the lentils in water overnight. Boil them in the same water about one and a half hours. Brown onions in oil, then add half of onions, rice and seasonings to lentils. Let the mixture boil for a few minutes.
When it thickens, pour into a tureen, and spread the remaining onions over the top.
